The Time Prague Shut Me Out

Prague was supposed to be chill.
It was about halfway through the trip. I had adjusted to living out of a backpack, converting currency on the fly, and being slightly disoriented most of the time. We got to the train station and were heading into the city with our group. Easy.
Until the doors closed. On me.
Like actually on me. One leg in, the rest of me out. No warning. Just doors shutting directly into my body. Everyone else made it on the train. I did not.
I looked up and saw Brett and Hope already inside, casually watching the chaos unfold from the window. Brett looked concerned. Hope looked like she was trying not to laugh. I stood there on the platform in a tiny crop top, watching their faces slowly disappear as the train pulled away.
Now I’m alone in a city I just arrived in, no working phone, no clue where I’m going, and no one to follow. For a second I just stood there in silence. Not panicking. Just questioning everything.
Eventually I asked a stranger how to get downtown. They pointed. I nodded like I knew what I was doing and got on the next train. I still don’t know if it was the right one, but I did eventually end up in the right area.
Brett, who apparently got off a couple stops ahead, was waiting for me. In the pouring rain. Because, and I quote, “I thought you might get taken.”
Fair.
What I Learned:
Know the stop name
Don’t assume the doors will reopen
And even if your friends are laughing, they probably still care
More stories like this are coming in my newsletter, including:
- The night I danced with a French policeman in Berlin until 4am
- Why I no longer trust salad in foreign countries
- And the reason I don’t stay at hostels without reading the reviews
This is just the beginning.
You’ll get tips, recs, chaos, and the occasional meltdown disguised as a travel update — straight to your inbox, twice a month.
Let’s get unhinged.
